Reception Teachers Survey
RECEPTION TEACHERS SURVEy
RECEPTION TEACHERS SURVEY
information for parents
The Children of the 2020s Reception Teacher Survey aims to understand more about the early school experiences of children growing up in England today.
Why have I been asked to take part?
You have been asked to take part because you and your child are part of the Children of the 2020s study and because your child attends a reception class.
What does taking part involve?
If you agree that we can contact your child’s teacher and you provide their contact details, then the teacher will be invited to take part in the Reception Teacher Survey.
If they agree to take part we would ask them to fill in an online survey or we may carry out a telephone survey with them. The survey will cover topics such as your child’s learning and development, the school and their teaching experiences. The survey will take place a few months after your visit from the Ipsos interviewer. Your own answers to your Children of the 2020s survey will not be shared with the teacher, and if the teacher takes part their answers will be confidential.
What will happen to the information you collect?
The information we collect from your child’s reception teacher and the reception teachers of other children in the study will be linked with information already gathered about children’s learning and development as part of the Children of the 2020s study. This will help us to understand how the experiences children have in reception class affect their development and learning. Any analysis is done on grouped data and is not reported as individual answers. Individual participants are never identified in any published reports.. Neither your child nor your child’s reception teacher or school will be named. Researchers will not be assessing your child at an individual level.
The information you give us will be held securely and will be treated in strict confidence in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK General Data Protection Regulation. If you are taking part in the pilot survey, this information will be used solely to inform the design of the main survey. You will not become part of the main study. Any information you provide during this research will NOT be used for marketing, nor will we sell or pass on your information to any third party. Please see the Privacy Notice for further information about how your data will be used, how long it will be held, and your rights under data protection laws linked below.
information for Parents – FAQS
What will we ask your child’s teacher?
We will ask your child’s reception teacher about their teaching experience, the school and how your child is getting on. All information will remain confidential and your child or school will not be named in any reporting.
Would other people know my child is taking part in the study?
To make sure we collect information from the right teacher we would need to pass your child’s name on to the school. We would ask them to keep confidential that you and your child are taking part in Children of the 2020s.
Will I or my child’s teacher have access to the information you gather in the Reception Teacher Survey?
No, each survey is confidential. We are not able to provide individual feedback to families, to teachers or to schools, on the information we gather. You will be able to read about our findings – and what these tell us about early education in England today – in a published report. All our reports are available on our website here.
information for Teachers
The Children of the 2020s Reception Teacher Survey aims to understand more about the early school experiences of children growing up in England today.
Why have I been asked to take part?
You have been asked to take part because you have been named as the reception teacher for a child or children who have taken part in the Children of the 2020s Age 5 survey. The child/ren’s parent(s) provided your contact details and gave their permission for us to ask you to take part in the Reception Teacher Survey.
What does taking part involve?
We would like you to take part so we have your perspective on children’s development. The information you provide will help us analyse how children are developing. It will be especially valuable as we can link it to the information we’ve collected on these same children since they were 9 months old in order to analyse the factors in early childhood that affect children’s learning and development when they start school.
For each named child we would like you to complete a questionnaire about that child’s development. We expect it would take about 10 minutes to answer questions about each child and usually you would be asked about 1 to 3 children in your class (although in rare cases it may be more than this).
What will happen to the information you collect?
The information we collect will be linked with information already gathered about children’s learning and development as part of the Children of the 2020s study. Any analysis is done on aggregated data and is not reported as individual answers. It will be used to understand more about children’s development in England at the current time. Neither the child nor you or your school will be named in any reporting. The research will not be assessing the child or school individually.
The information you give us will be held securely and will be treated in strict confidence in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK General Data Protection Regulation. Any information you provide during this research will NOT be used for marketing, nor will we sell or pass on your information to any third party. Please see the Privacy Notice for further information about how your data will be used, how long it will be held, and your rights under data protection laws linked below.
