Children of the 2020s Study

Age 3 years survey (2024 - 20205)

Taking part in the Age 3 years survey
We surveyed families when children were around 9 months, and then again at 2 years, and will continue to follow them up over time when the children are 3, 4 and 5 years old. This is an important time for us to understand how children are developing, and the factors that help them, eventually, to be ready for school.

Who would we like to speak to?
We would like to speak with one parent/guardian, usually the one that spends the most time with the child currently, for about a 70-minute visit at home. The visit involves some fun tasks for the 3-year-old(s) to do, such as listening to a short story, playing some games on a touchscreen, and finding different objects in a picture. It also involves the parent/guardian answering some questions about their child(ren)’s development and family life. We would also like invite the 3-year-old(s) other parent/guardians to complete an online survey.

The Age 3 survey includes questions about:

We will also ask parents/guardians about adding information from government administrative records to survey responses. This information is only to be used for the purposes of understanding child and family development better, as part of our research study. More information about this can be found here.

What if I am out or busy when the Ipsos interviewer comes to visit?

If you are unable to take part when the Ipsos interviewer calls, they will be happy to arrange a more convenient time.

How do I know the interviewer is genuine?

All interviewers carry ID photocards with a Freephone number 0808 238 5456 to call if you want to check who they are. If you have any concerns, please contact us via this number (please note that calls from a landline are free but calls from mobiles may vary so please check with your provider).

What happens when the Ipsos interviewer comes to visit?

The visit will be relaxed and informal. The Ipsos interviewer will arrange the visit for a date and time that suits you. They will have a tablet computer and follow a set questionnaire. There are no right or wrong answers - we just want to know your views and information about you and your 3-year-old child(ren). You do not have to answer any question if you do not want to. The most important thing is that you answer as accurately and as honestly as possible. You can also stop the interview at any time. If you stop and want to complete the interview later, that is also possible.

Do I get a voucher for taking part in the surveys?

Yes, we offer you an e-voucher as a token of our appreciation . At the end of the visit the interviewer will collect your email address to send you the e-voucher, In case you do not receive your voucher or have questions about the redeeming the voucher, please contact us.
